Posts: 518 08/07/09 8:18	Tags : None I have a good friend who drew a permit for the Red Oak bear hunt, does anybody in the Mio-Lewiston-Atlanta area have a bear problem that needs fixing? Looking for places to put out some bait in that general area, public or private. Could trade some fishing on West Twin Lake in Lewiston, he has a pontoon boat on the water there, mabey a guided Morel hunt in the spring? let me know ok, thanks. Your Signature ... Posts: 236 08/16/09 9:38 Moderator	I wish I would have checked this friday before I went up north sorry Steve.I know the pigeon river forest has some good cedar swamps out by pickerel lake east of Vanderbilt Mi I have seen some good bear tracks and scat out there along the sturgeon river and pigeon.Plenty of land to cover out there.I have been putting in for the Red Oak unit for 5 years had have not got a tag I am glad your buddy got one Steve.I know Lewiston is not far from from the PRF.I hope that helps if I had more time away from work I could show him some areas out there.I will let you know the next time I am up in Gaylord at my parents house. Ok off topic question for you Steve Me and the wife went to Lewiston powersports in town last weekend and leaving town to the west I think on CO612 and Meridian Line There is a big curve there and a large fenced in area on the right side of the road is this a ranch??or utility property only ask because at Noon on sunday I seen the biggest buck I have EVER SEEN inside that fence I would say close to a 200 inch buck full velvet perfect rack.The wife thought I was crazy because I came around that curve doing 45mph and seen the buck about 40yrds into the woods inside the fence and locked up the brakes with tires smoking and all.She then seen it also and asked if it was a elk I said no it is a huge whitetail.Do you know anything about this fenced in area I am talking about?

Posts: 518 08/16/09 12:41	Hey Rob, that is a high fence private hunting ranch, the second house you come to on that curve is my buddy's house. I stand out behind his house by the fence drinking coffee and watch those bucks every morning when i am up there, there are some real monsters in there, there is also a bunch of elk in there. The first year he moved there we were feeding the elk whole cob corn by throwing it over the fence, they would walk right up and eat it while we stood right there. The whitetails are still spooky though, if they see you their leaving right now. He is not far from the pigeon river area, we hunt shrooms up near there every spring, one year I found an old bear skull while shrooming in that area. We just missed each other up there because I was up there last sat and sunday helping him cut wood. Your Signature ... That's a shooter!!

Posts: 236 08/21/09 7:56 Moderator	That's what I was thinking a ranch seeing how a 200inch deer was feeding at noon close to a main road.Man he was a brute.Iam sure it is nice staying right by there getting to wake up and see them critters.Did your buddy find a spot to hunt yet?

Posts: 518 08/21/09 9:54	I haven't talked to him in a couple days but he has a guy he works with that has had a bear destroy a couple of bird feeders and he was trying to get permission to hunt there. If not there is alot of wild public land close to lewiston, I will be going up and doing some scouting and baiting hopefully next week. Your Signature ... That's a shooter!!
