Yes there is a supply chain shortage of ammo in the USA. It started with the Uncle Sam placing orders about 3 years ago for millions of rounds of 223 and 40 cal for the military.
Then lead prices went sky high (thanks to the Chinese), then brass was in short supply, fuel costs for production and transportation etc, etc. Some of those conditions have eased however since the election of '08, the fact that the Hussein Obama administration wants to take our guns away from us has prompted a scare and thus a run on guns and ammo.
It appears that right now the current administration is not going to deal directly with the firearms issue but instead go after the ammo and all of its components. My suggestion is to get involved with reloading. Buy up the components, brass, bullets, primers and powders when you can get them.
