looks like by how many vehicles i have seen this morning that the hunters are still coming up lots of shooting also, as much as last year I would say. one sporting goods shop that ususally sells a lot of feed for season says thay have barely slowed down. I go there for equip and info only this year though. got a spike this morning suprising 2 1/2 yrs old and not of bragging type but will fit in the freezer just fine. obviously not like hunting on troy's ranch

Well went out yesterday for the opener. WET WET WET. Man than rain was bad. I sat in my stand for about 2 hours before i got smart and headed over to my tower
stand. I found my Father in Law in there warming up. We were there for about 15 minutes when a Doe walked out about 90 yards. My Father in law missed. We got
down and checked for blood, but he missed. I will say on his part he were's glasses and they had alot of rain on them. But for the better part of the day
we didn't here many shots. I seen some turkeys and a couple of small bucks, but passed. My Brother in Law shot a 6 point in the afternoon that was hot on
a doe about 3:30. GREAT day though. Family and the Woods always makes for a great opener.....

Alot of hunters out on state land that I hunt. Many more than before and heard many more shots. Think it is because of the week-end opening day. I am afraid
the little bucks that my boys and I pass up are getting shot which pisses me off because we work hard on letting the bucks get older. But that is what happens
when you hunt state land. Maybe my boys should have shot some this year since the city folks shoot everything that moves. I still say that there should be a
no spike rule in this state and strongly believe that. It would only take 2 years to see the value of this. Also, when people come up to a new area they do
not care about other hunters and where they are hunting. Had a guy put up his stuff Friday night about 70 yards away from where my boy and I have hunted for
15 years. My boy said take his stuff but I said no. Want to teach him that stealing isnt the answer. Then him and some others where talking at 9:00am.
Enough of that. I told my sons that is why I bow hunt to beat the non real hunters in the woods and see the nice bucks. I got 2 nice 8 points this year and
passed many 6 on down deer. Just wish my boy could have seen one this gun opener.

The weather in my hunt area was not good for deer movement. It rained from Friday the 14th until late evening on the 15th. Winds were N-NW at 20-30 mph. This
caused the rain to go nearly horizontal. I guess the deer must have bedded down for the storm. I saw total of 4 deer. (A doe and 2 fawn @ 550 yards and an
after hunt time something @ 40 yards) Of the 6 in our hunting party we all saw deer. All the deer were either does or 4-point or less. We were shut out. Did
not hear much shooting compared to previous years. Better luck ahead!

I hunted today and just seen two birds.
What is with people shooting does? I thought the firearms season was for bucks only. I know there is a late anterless on private land but thats not going on now. |

Hunted the Gaylord area and saw 3 deer all weekend. All does and I shot the biggest one. As far as I know you can still fill your doe permits during firearm
season

Salomnie wrote:It is better than shooting young bucks. If more people did this it would be a lot better hunting. I was in Atlanta hunting over the weekend and saw only little bucks, it was pretty pathetic, I don't get it. |

I saw a bunch of small bucks nearly everyday. Watched a basket rack 8-point for nearly 30 minutes tending a Doe opening morning at 8:00 am. Had a 4-pointer
chase a doe nearly right underneath me. Watched a spike breed a doe twice in a clearcut nearly 80 yds away. I also saw a nice 6-point as wide as the ears
moving through the timber behind me at 40 yds or so.
*saw a bunch of does and alot of button bucks. I would of taken a doe this week but didn't see one I really wanted and will now have an excuse to go muzzleloader. I had alot of fun and it is a bummer it is over so fast. |

I went Sunday night and took a Doe and Then Monday morning and took another Doe from the property. So I think I did My Job on Doe Patrol this year. On our property and the property around us,we have a doe to buck Ratio of 10 doe's to 2 Bucks so if you ask me that's a Little LOPSIDED...The guys around us only take Buck's..Which means we have alittle problem with the doe heard.. That's all I'm going to say on the Doe Thing..But What a season so far..I took a part time Job out at The Country Smoke House To Fill in the Void of time I have as a deer skinner .. I have seen more Deer than I ever have there in the last couple day's coming in to be butchered and man the Thumb has got some Big Buck's..Seen some crazy racks to...BUT KEEP Shooting them up guy's....GREAT STORY'S GUY'S KEEP'EM COMING!!!! I live to hunt!!! |

I went out today, didn't see a thing.
I think its a good idea to shoot the does and it is better to get a doe than a small buck. I just thought it was only in the late anterless season, I will find out when I go to Gander and get the permit. |

Here is my brother's 2 buck's I thought I would share. He took them both on his Inlaw's property in Freesoil Mi. The 8 point had lost the other side of his rack and the other is a 5 point . Troy, Mike said Look at that truck sticker. That's the only sticker on that 2008 F-150 and the only one ever He said..... I live to hunt!!! |
