Just getting some opinions. For those of you with kids, how old were they before you started teaching them to shoot a bow or gun. My son is not quite 4 yet so
I'm thinking he has some time, but he definitely wants to go catch deer with dad and I can't wait to take him out. He already loves being outdoors up
north.

I dont have kids but I have an opinion. My dad started teaching myself and brother about firearms as soon as we could hold one. I have a picture where dad
is helping me hold a 22 handgun when I was 3 shooting targets. Didnt get my own gun until I was 8. That was a pretty good age to start. Please dont give him
a BB gun and let him go to town with it. Alot of my friends had BB guns when they where kids and I dont like to hunt with some of them because I dont know if
I might get shot. Everyone that goes to the range with me understands what they can and cant do.
I think this might be my first time suggesting this, pick up an airsoft gun. Teach him safe gun handling in advance.

My son is now 11. I bought him his first gun at age 9. It was a single shot youth .22. He is now a squirrel hunting maniac. But, 9 was a good age.

A BB gun? No way, you'll shoot your eye out.
I remember when I was a kid, I took a shot at a coffee can with a BB gun and it bounced off and I could of lost an eye, just like the kid in Christmas Story. |

My daughter is 2 1/2... Will be 3 in March... Im buying her a cricket or a papoose for her Bday... Not saying she will get it then but she may... She is very
advanced for her age... She is more mature than my wifes sister who is turning 11 this month... If she does get to shoot it this early it will be off my lap
with my holding on the gun too...
IMO if you can instill safety and demand and receive it from them.... Any age you deem fit will be sufficient |
