yep, used to go all the time with my granddad and
dad. mostly for perch and walleyes, the bad part of perch
is the filleting them for hours afterward.lol

If you don't icefish around here your fishing season is only 4 months long .
We fish for perch, walley, pike, whitefish, burbot, grayling, rainbow and brook trout throught the ice.

yes, did that all the time when I was growing up..
tip-Ups mostly.. northern and walleye.
its great fun if you make a camp fire and stay out real late. we put reflective tape on the tip-Up flages and just shine a light on them every 3-5 mins.. you will see when they go up. smalls |

What no one likes to ice fish.... When we go out we stay out for the whole day. Of course we have portable shelters and heaters . The grandsons don't mind. They rotate watching the flags, and keep taking my flasher. And still can't figure why I still catch fish. I keep telling them that They aren't holding their mouths open right. One grandson gets up at 6:00 am and ask when aare going fishing ?

Wow, way to go! Sounds like some terrific fishing!
We don't have quite as many opportunities to ice fish here in south central PA. In fact I have never bought any equipment for ice fishing. One of these days I'll finally do it. WF

We are truly blessed here in Michigan to have the natural resources that we have. Saginaw Bay ice fishing can be nothing short of incredible ! I seen in excess of 80 walleye that day swim past my holes.

Yes, we don't have quite the fishery here that you do there. Nothing wrong with our fishery, it just doesn't excel on some of the fish like what you have available to you. For instance I couldn't imagine seeing 80 'eyes swim past a hole in the ice in one day here!
Plus our winters aren't as cold for as long as yours so we don't have near the hard water season that you do. WF |
