Muzzleloader Scope Question

Posts: 15 04/08/09 9:50	Tags : None I have a CVA .50 cal muzzie that currently has a Nikon 4X32 scope on it. It recently dawned on me that the scope I'm currently using may be underpowered. I have a Nikon 3X9 ProStaff that I was considering swapping out with the 4x32 on the muzzie. Does anyone recommend a 3X9 for a muzzie or a 2X7X32? Could you share what power scope you use? I'm hoping 09 will be a good year in the field...that is ....if my gear is in order! Thanks, Mike

Posts: 236 04/08/09 10:54 Moderator	If I were you I would just put your 3x9 prostaff on the smoke pole.Why spend the money when you have a great scope.Is your scope a BDC or standard cross hairs?I only ask because I have not heard anything good about the BDC.

Posts: 571 04/08/09 10:58 Firearm Expert	I dont think you are underpowered for a muzzleloader.....I dont have glass on my muzzleloader, but its not my primary weapon for firearms season. Only time I use it is for muzzleloader season. If its a spare 3x9 I would put it on without a doubt. I have a Nikon ProStaff 2-7x32 on a 450 Marlin, I really like that as it has a long eye relief and plenty of magnifaction for the 450. Doug .................. Sticks and stones may break my bones but Hollow Points expand on impact.

Posts: 119 04/15/09 9:28	I use a Nikon 3-9x40 on my muzzleloader and love it. It works very well and I have taken a lot of deer with it. I use the BDC reticles on all of my rifles and muzzleloader and have not had any problems. You just have to compensate for the type of gun and the ammo it shoots. There is a chart included when you buy the scope that will help you do this. Once you master it you will appreciate it. Just my 2 cents.
