I am all about having some form of QDM and setting some sort of goals. Even though I would be a hypocrite if I said I practiced it. Every season at my property I shoot a 2.5 yr old 8-point with good genetics that I should let go. I do let ALL of the 1 1/2 year old bucks go but the neighbors don't. For now QDM for me is letting the 1.5 year old bucks go and maybe 2 or 3 will make it to next year.

There are plenty of does on my property so that is where I get most of my meat. I only shoot 2 bucks a year off of my property. I am sure there is a 3.5 or 4.5 yr old buck around but it is like a needle in a haystack. With some type of QDM for the entire state then it would be a little more common. What I like the most now about QDM being talked about in this state is this......at least now we are shooting more does and letting some of the smaller bucks slip through the cracks.

Good article! I think that buck tags should be more limited and doe tags more available. Its pretty simple, take more does and leave more young bucks and you end up with a better herd. Just my .02

If you're a Michigan deer hunter, you've most likely heard of Quality Deer Management (QDM) or the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA).
