I just got the e-mail today, looks like they are allowing crossbows to be used for deer hunting in MI.

That's fine with me. Now maybe we can reduce the amount of does and if we let the small, young bucks grow to at least 3 years old. Maybe we can then get
some nice bucks like they do in Ohio. The sad thing about MI is that 85% of the bucks taken are under 1.5 years old. I feel we should "Let them go, let
the Grow"

Quality Deer Management (QDM) is a management philosophy/practice that unites landowners, hunters, and managers in a common goal of producing
biologically and socially balanced deer herds within existing environmental, social, and legal constraints. This approach typically involves the protection of
young bucks (yearlings and some 2.5 year-olds) combined with an adequate harvest of female deer to maintain a healthy population in balance with existing
habitat conditions and landowner desires. This level of deer management involves the production of quality deer (bucks, does, and fawns), quality habitat,

Mic, My opinion on the doe count is if you have to many does the mature bucks don't get up and cruise during the rut they can stay put in there beds and
wait for one to come to them.Just my opinionQDMA experts may have
another reason for this and I would also like to hear it.

I never shoot a buck unless its 8 point or better, thats why I love my camera. I think it should be mandatory 6 point or better before you shoot. My next door
neighbor will shoot a baby buck or anything that walks, pisses me off, about 30 guys in that group dangerous group with all the drinking and shooting. I have
nothing against partying but it should be after the hunt. Another thing that pisses me off is the red tags, Hundreds of tags handed out in my area. Shit I can
get them for tree damage, and no one checks up on them. Yes we have a extremely high concentration of deer, I think we have a great chance for large racked
deer here. My father lives in town and every day there are around 10 deer in his back yard, that is so cool, yes we have pictures. Being in town he could never
shoot one, even with a bow, good thing the freeks would come out of the wood work and be hitting houses with there arrows. Anyway I would love to talk to
someone about QDMA and explain to me how it works....

I believe the use of crossbows in ohio is for anyone during archery season with no restrictions. I am a bow hunter but am glad that I have the choice of using
a bow or crossbow now. I also agree let them grow. Cant stand it when I pass deer that are young and your neighbor shoots them.

Ok so the way I take that is if you are hunting up north you can only hunt with cross bow during gun season unless you are 50 or older then you can hunt all
seasons and you can hunt southern mich during bow or gun no age req.

I know I will still be using my Martin Compound during bow season and my Rem.870 slug gun during firearm.I do think it is a good idea going to get alot more
people back into bow season and will take some of the pressure off gun season when most of our deer are killed.

I think ohio has a seperate season for Xbows.As far as Mich becomeing a big buck state we are along way from that right now to many weekend warriors that's
why all our young bucks never mature into anything.Mi dnr need to start taking pointers from OH,IL.IA and WI.With shorter seasons and earn a buck zones.Because
our doe population is way out of wack at least in my area it is

March 6, 2009

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission on Thursday approved a proposal to expand the use of crossbows for hunting in Michigan.

Under the new regulations, crossbows may be used:

during any season in which a firearm may be used, for both big and small game;

for any hunting season in Zone 3 of southern Michigan;

by anyone 50 years of age or older during the Oct. 1-Nov. 14 deer season.

Included in the regulations are limits on the velocity of the crossbow. Crossbows used for hunting are restricted to no more than 350 feet per second
