May is a good time to plant the Spring & Summer Blend of Outfitter's Choice or even late April. This stuff will last into November and not only be Green but pallatable for the Deer.

We have one 20 acre field and several that are 1 or 2 acres tucked away nicely in the woods.

What is the best time to plant the Outfitters choice. I was thinking of have the farmer plant corn in the 20 acre field next year than put plots in the other fields. Thanks for your help

That rye is only good for a month or so in the fall. I would plant at least 1 foodplot or More...... in the Spring. You need something to hold them in your area during the spring & summer months and get them used to bedding in those areas. Plus it is good nutrition for a healthier deer herd. I would plant the Outfitter's choice I have (which I prefer because of the ingredients) or if you don't want that get something that has Ladino Clover in it. This will last for 4 yrs or better and produce food all the way into November.
*and you could plant a fall plot that will have the rape turnip and brassica's etc. Outfitter's Choice has a blend I will have shortly for the fall months also. Will give you the info on that soon. You have some time now and need to think which areas you are going to plant for sure and how much seed you will need.

If you are going to just plant that 20 acre spot (which is ALOT) ...I would mix it up and break it up etc

Ok here is one of the problems we have. We had a farmer in the area plant 20 acres of rye this year for us but it does not grow very tall. And it seems that when the snow starts to fly and we have more than 5 or 6 inches on the ground the deer just stop coming to our fields. Should I have some thing that has taller tops like turnips or beets or do you think that they will crave this so much that they will dig through the snow to get to it.

Here is the same plot in the same week with lower light and you can see how green it still is. I wish I had some pics of what I planted behind the cabin. The plot is alot bigger than this one and is loaded every morning and afternoon with deer eating on it. Will try to get some pics since I am not out in the woods hunting now. The stuff is still green also

I will get some pics up shortly of the Deer that was on the outfitter's choice last week during the opening week of firearm season. The stuff is still green and works from spring til November. It has chicory, Jumbo Ladino Clover and Kopu 2. Great mix and I am working on getting smaller bags for people that don't need 25 lbs. Will have more info soon.

I seen your Post, and I know The Outfitter's choice is grade A+ for the results. Next year it will be Outfitter's choice and corn for us. We will have 10 acre's in corn 3 in outfitter's and 5 in beans. You definitely have enough property to mix it up. It does seem like the natural food sources are always good to have. We did try that Throw and Grow in some area's and they haven't really Hit it. I'm not a pro, But it seems like mixing it up is always the best way to go. The farmer across the river from us left some standing corn and it seems like they still are loving it and feel safe in it..Best of luck, can't wait to see some pic's..

OK I am going to plant some food plots on our 400 acres next year. Our land is in the Gaylord area and we have 5 different plot sites about 1 or 2 acres each picked out. I would like some ideas on what I should plant for all year use. Or should I mix things up some. Thanks
